SYMPOSIUM INVITATION AND CALL FOR PAPERS
Dear Academics,
The 1st International Sūdī al-Bosnawī Symposium
will be held on May 07-09, 2027, under the leadership of TİKA and the Yunus
Emre Institute, and under the execution of Şırnak University, Dicle University,
Univerzitet u Sarajevu, and the International University of Sarajevo.
In the first symposium, which will be held
under the title “Sūdī al-Bosnawī from Bosnia-Herzegovina to Istanbul, from
Istanbul to Diyarbakır, from Diyarbakır to Damascus,” Sūdī al-Bosnawī’s journeys
in the Ottoman geography, his works, and his influences will be discussed.
During the 16th century, when Sūdī
al-Bosnawī lived, the Ottoman Empire experienced one of the most brilliant periods
in its history. The empire’s borders expanded to their greatest extent, and
alongside this geographical and political expansion, significantly scholarly, mystical,
and cultural movements also flourished throughout this period.
Understanding Bosnawī’s works and
personality in all their dimensions requires taking into account the historical
and cultural environment in which he lived. For this reason, in the symposium, Bosnawī’s
intellectual and mystical circles, as well as his relations with the Ottoman
political structure and the social life of the period, will be evaluated by
academic circles.
In the symposium, Sūdī’s erudite, cultural,
and social environment in the 16th-century Ottoman Empire, the historical context
in which he lived, his relations with Ottoman statesmen and political circles,
and the rereading of his works within a historical and intellectual context
will be addressed.
In addition to these topics, original paper
proposals from different disciplines will also be included, provided that they
are directly related to the general framework of the symposium. The symposium
plans to address various dimensions of Sūdī al-Bosnawī, such as his life,
thought, works, Sufi approach, his influence in different geographies, and his
place in today's world. Within this framework, we invite all researchers
working on Sūdī and the 16th-century Ottoman geography, especially the Balkans,
primarily our academicians working in literature, theology, Sufism, art
history, cultural history, and other fields of the social sciences, to submit
papers to the symposium.
It is planned that the accommodation and
transportation arrangements in Sarajevo for the presenters of the accepted
papers will be organized within the framework of the symposium organization in
a manner that facilitates their participation.
The symposium is expected to contribute to
the emergence of new research on the historical world in which Sūdī al-Bosnawī
lived, the re-evaluation of existing assessments, and the development of a
lasting scientific consensus in studies on Bosnawī by bringing together
researchers from different disciplines.
By addressing a renowned scholar and his
works, we aim to achieve five primary objectives at this symposium:
1. To strengthen the existing historical,
social, economic, and cultural ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Türkiye.
2. To ensure that a great scholar like Sūdī
al-Bosnawī is more widely recognized by the people of both Bosnia and
Herzegovina and Anatolia.
3. To more clearly demonstrate the
contributions of Bosnian scholars and Sufis to Islamic culture and civilization.
4. To facilitate valuable collaborations
between academics of the two countries.
5. To contribute to the translation of all the
works of Sūdī al-Bosnawī into Bosnian.
